The 2012 Folklore Village Fundraiser & Quilt Raffle Conclusion
Doors open at 6:30
Program 7:30-10:30
Sponsored by the Folklore Village Board of Directors
$25 minimum donation for this special evening
Join us for a very special evening that promises and delivers a variety of experiences that make Folklore Village the center for showcasing the best of American folk music and cultural traditions.

“My Life in Country Music,” will feature premiere country music historian Bill C. Malone as he recounts the many influences that compose a "musical sound track" of his life and that led to his scholarship in Country Music. These influences include songs from his mother and commercial recordings beginning in the 1920s (the Carter Family and Jimmie Rodgers) up through Hank Williams and the emergence of bluegrass after World War II. The talk will be punctuated by performances with his wife, Bobbie and with local musical friends, The Firesides (Meghan Dudle & Daniel Libby).
At the break, you'll enjoy a sampling of Iowa County goods-local artisan cheeses, apples and sweets-then participate in a silent auction and the exciting conclusion of the quilt raffle.

Mt. Horeb singer/songwriter Corey Hart will open the second set with songs from his latest album recorded at Madison's Smart Studios that earned him two MAMAs (Madison Area Music Association awards) in 2012-one for best male vocalist and the other for best Folk/Americana album.
We'll wrap up the evening with a contra dance. Amy McFarland, (Last Gaspe) Carol Ormand and friends will complete the circle of our salute to American roots music at our beloved location in southwest WI.
$25.00 minimum donation for this special evening

Shitty Barn Sessions - May 16
Next Wednesday I have the great honor of playing at the Shitty Barn in Spring Green, WI. This was originally scheduled as a split bill with Madison's Nick Brown, but Nick broke his picking-hand thumb last week and had to cancel. Juniper Tar, a great band from Milwaukee, will be filling out the bill now. I'm making this my Madison 12 show for May. Don't miss it.
Here's some more info on the Shitty Barn:
WHAT:Audience and performer coexist in an intimate and integrated space with as little separating instruments and ears as possible. No stage. Stripped down. Pure music love. Like having the performance in your living room (except, in this case, a sh*tty barn).
WHO:We strive for a varied selection of emerging artists from a number of genres. If you’re a band or performer and interested in being a part of the Shitty Barn Sessions, holler here.
WHERE: 506 E. Madison St. Spring Green, WI 53588 Just a short, scenic drive from Madison; Spring Green is nestled in the inspirational hills of southwest Wisconsin. All performances are pre-ticketed. A few songs will be taped for posterity and put up HERE for your viewing pleasure.
WHEN:Spring. Summer. Fall. Start at 6 with a hot grill, associated condiments, and paper plates (BYO grillables). Please no alcoholic beverage carry-ins. We have a cash bar serving beer and wine.
MUSIC FROM 7 - 9pm. You will have a guaranteed spot on The Sh*tty Barn concrete floor. There is limited seating, but plenty of floor space.
BYO lawnchair or blanket if you prefer to keep your jeans clean. All performances will be recorded and archived. This is a family-friendly event. 6yrs +.
